With Labor Day approaching, many families across America are sad to see the end of summer. Here in Central Florida, we can enjoy the holiday to the fullest knowing we will still have beautiful weather for many weeks to come.

This year Labor Day falls on Monday, September 4th, which will give Central Florida parents and kids a chance to catch their breath after the first few weeks of school. Whether you want to celebrate over the weekend and use Monday to recuperate or celebrate until Tuesday morning comes, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the holiday in Orlando and the surrounding area. Here is a guide to some of the best options, presented by the Core Group.

Friday: Downtown Nightlife

Downtown is usually the best place to kick off the long weekend. Join the block party that fills the blocks around Wall Street to enjoy the energy of the city and the view of Church Street Station all lit up by night. There are also several small nightclubs and bars in this area and around the Amway Arena where you can meet locals and drink craft beers or dance the night away.

Saturday: Explore The Outdoors

Saturday is a great day to spend on the beach or exploring one of Central Florida’s hiking trails. If you plan to hit one of the area’s state parks, leave early because these areas can get full on the holidays. This is also good advice if you plan to visit any of the local water parks, as many locals and tourists alike will be hoping to stay cool this weekend.

Sunday: Catch the Fireworks

Sunday is the day to see fireworks at popular spots around the city. The areas around Crane’s Roost in Altamonte Springs and Lake Eola in downtown Orlando are two great places to set down a blanket and see the action.

Monday: Quality Family Time

Many local communities will host parades and parties on Monday for families who want to enjoy the day off. One of the most popular is held in Lake Eola park, with food, entertainment and children’s activities at the end.
