If you’re shopping for a home in the Central Florida area, there are a few names of home builders that you will be likely to see over and over again. Each has their own style and advantages that you may want to get to know before making a final choice. Here is a quick guide to what you should know about each builder and what you can expect if you purchase a home they built.

DR Horton

Established more than 30 years ago by Donald R. Horton, DR Horton builds single-family homes in selected communities around the country, including several in the Orlando area:

  • Beacon Park Landing in Orlando
  • Victoria Trails in Deland
  • Kindred Express in Kissimmee
  • Bella Isles in Orlando
  • Somerset in Sanford

As one of the largest home builders in America, DR Horton has established a reputation for delivering a quality product in a short time frame. The communities where they build are designed for families, with parks, lakes and walkable trails incorporated to add to the quality of life. Price wise, DR Horton homes are affordable enough for the average family to purchase as a starter home, but these values can appreciate fast once new construction in the neighborhood ceases. This can mean a higher price tag on the resale market.

ICI Homes

Established in Daytona Beach, Florida, ICI Homes builds across the state as well as in Georgia and Tennessee. With a well-established reputation for doing work in the community, ICI Homes is a solid choice of a home builder for buyers who want a builder with local expertise and connections.  These homes are typically known for having a Mediterranean style, with red tile roofs, high outer elevations, and large windows.  ICI Homes have an extravagant look, with long driveways and striking curb appeal, so the average price for these homes is a bit higher than a simpler looking starter home from another builder.

Taylor Morrison

Formed in 2007, Taylor Morrison is the partnership of two established and experienced home builders, George Wimpey and Taylor Woodrow. Taylor Morrison homes typically come with a multi-year warranty, so if you purchase one of these homes from the original owner, you may still have coverage remaining under this warranty.  Pricing on Taylor Morrison homes can vary greatly depending on the community you choose to live in.
